St Giles' Cathedral

St Giles' Renewal Appeal

Since 1998, an important project has been underway to renew the fabric and interior of St Giles' Cathedral. So far, it has centred on conservation of the medieval Tower and the Crown Spire, and on the exterior of the building - releading of the roofs, stonework repairs and expert attention to the stained glass windows.

We are now raising £2.5 million (US$5 million) to complete the comprehensive restoration with a programme of work on the medieval interior.

Entitled "Access and Enlightenment", this last phase focuses on two key improvements:

• the recently created new entrance at the West Door, enabling wheelchair-users and all with reduced mobility to have ease of access to this historic place of worship,
and

• lightening of the interior with new lighting and the re-instatement of traditional lime plaster on the ceiling vaults, which together will reveal and display its grand architecture as never before.

Other schemes include the conservation of the exquisite Thistle Chapel for the first time since it was it was built, a century ago.

If you would like to make a donation towards the renewal of St Giles', the mother church of Presbyterianism, we would be glad to send you further information on how you can do this. Please contact us by email or at the address below.
