Becoming a Volunteer Guide
St Giles’ Cathedral is looking for enthusiastic and friendly people to join our team of volunteers.
Volunteers at St Giles’ aim to provide visitors with a warm and welcoming atmosphere by offering a high quality experience, encouraging visitors to explore and learn about the remarkable history of the building. There are a number of voluntary opportunities available within St Giles’, and ideally volunteers will gain experience in different areas, for example at the Information Desk or as Visitor Guide, but we will try to accommodate all.
Information Desk Volunteer
By acting as the first point of call volunteers working at the information desk are responsible for ensuring a warm welcome to all visitors. Volunteers working in this role are also responsible for providing visitors with printed information about the church, renting and ensuring the safe return of audio tours and are on hand to answer individual questions and queries from visitors.
By providing visitors with important information regarding the history of St Giles’, our volunteer guides greatly enhance visitor experience and ensure memorable and enjoyable experience for all. Volunteers working in this role, spend time within the main body of the church providing informal tours and answering visitor queries. There may also be opportunities to give full tours to our many pre-booked groups from around the globe. No formal guiding experience is necessary but a thirst for knowledge and a love of speaking to the public is a must!
