St Giles’ Cathedral Choir Edinburgh

Recruiting Singers

St Giles’ Cathedral Choir invites interest from singers of all voices to sing as Deputies.

If you are an experienced singer who enjoys the challenge of new and exciting repertoire and would like to be part of one of Scotland’s foremost choirs, then we would like to hear from you.

There are thirty permanent members of St Giles' Choir, made up of 12 Sopranos, 6 Altos, 6 Tenors and 6 Basses. From time to time there are vacancies for permanent members, but we are always looking for Deputies to cover for absences or holidays. Many permanent members of the choir have begun as deputies.

Choir members are expected to have sight-reading experience; the repertoire for the 10am and 11.30am Sunday services is wide and varied, ranging from the sixteenth century to the present day. Rehearsals are on Thursday evenings and on Sunday mornings. The choir is also regularly involved in singing for civic, national and royal occasions.

The choir’s 2014 CD recording, O clap your hands, was described as “breathtaking” in Choir& Organ magazine. Their performance of Tippett Spirituals was in the 2018 Fringe was “sung with an energy and vibrancy that was inspiring”
