Dr Peter Litman, Organist & Director of Music at Cathedral Isle of Man

Dr Peter Litman was organ scholar at Christ Church College, Canterbury from 1996 to 1999, where he completed a degree in music, studying the organ with Neil Wright.  A gifted choral director, he read postgraduate degrees in choral direction and music education with Dr Colin Durrant and Dr Therees Tkach-Hibbard at the University of Surrey; latterly achieving a doctorate. In 2003 he was appointed Director of the innovative MA Choral Education course at Roehampton University.  He relocated to North Wales in 2009, as Director of Music at Glyndwr University, Wrexham, and Organist and Choirmaster at St Peter's Collegiate Church, Ruthin. Peter continued to study the organ with Roger Fisher at Chester Cathedral gaining both FLCM and LTCL diplomas in organ performance. In 2012, he was appointed the first full-time Organist and Director of Music at St German's Cathedral in Peel, Isle of Man. He holds Honorary Fellowship to the Guild of Church Musicians (HonFGCM). In 2017, Peter was awarded an honorary Associate of the Royal School of Church Music (ARSCM) for achievements in church music of national significance. Locally in 2021, Peter was made an Honorary Fellow of University College Isle of Man, in recognition for his service to church music on the Island. In addition to his Cathedral duties, Peter is a music examiner for the London College of Music. Away from music, Peter spends his remaining time with Christiane and their 2 sons, Benedict and Magnus.
