Meet the Ministers

  • Rev Dr Scott Rennie

    Scott was born in Bucksburn, Aberdeen. He read Geography at St Mary’s and then Divinity at Christ's College, both at the University of Aberdeen. After serving as Assistant Minister at Queen's Cross Church, Aberdeen, he was awarded the Scots Fellowship at Union Theological Seminary in the City of a New York. Scott has served congregations in Angus, Aberdeen, and London before coming to the St Giles'.

  • Reverend Sigrid Marten

    Born and raised in Germany, Sigrid studied theology in Bethel, Hamburg, Glasgow and Edinburgh before training for ministry in the Church of Scotland. She was ordained in 1997 and has ministered with congregations in Glasgow, London, Edinburgh, and most recently, in rural Stirlingshire.

  • REV DR GEORGE J WHYTE

    George has served as a Parish Minister in Argyll, Glasgow and Edinburgh, as Presbytery Clerk of Edinburgh and then as Principal Clerk of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland.

    In 2022 he was given a knighthood by Pope Francis for work in improving relationships with the Catholic Church in Scotland and in 2023 received an OBE from the King in recognition of his service to faith communities. He is currently one of the King's Scottish chaplains.

    He was appointed as a Canon at St Giles’ in 2025.

  • JAMIE SUTHERLAND

    Jamie is originally from Inverness. He studied for degrees in Philosophy & Linguistics (MA Hons) followed by Divinity (MDiv), both at the University of Edinburgh. Prior to beginning his probationary placement at St Giles’, he undertook training placements and locum ministry across Edinburgh, most recently at North & South Leith. He has strong interests in liturgical and systematic theology, as well as Scottish church history.

    Jamie is a Probationer Minister at St Giles’.
