St Giles' at Six: Organ Recital with Hans Hielscher

Concert organist Hans Hielscher plays a programme including Denis Bédard's Suite, and music by Jongen, Nevin and Ketèlbey on the cathedral's renowned Rieger organ.

About Hans Hielscher:
Hans began his church music studies at the State University for Music in Detmold before completing further studies with focus on French organ music in Rouen and Paris, and carillon studies at the Nederlandse Beiaard School Amersfoort. Since 1979 Hans has been the Organist and Carillonneur at Ev. Marktkirche in Wiesbaden, capital city of Hesse. In 1988 Hans was appointed Resident Organist of the Concert Hall organ at Kurhaus Wiesbaden, a post which he retained until 2003.

In 1985 he was appointed "Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres" by the French Minister of Culture in Paris, Jack Lang, for worldwide services to French organ music, and in 2019 Hans was awarded the "Certificate of Honor for Art and Culture" by the Hessian Ministry for Science and Art in Wiesbaden. Alongside CD recordings for various international labels and radio and television recordings, Hans Hielscher is a published composer of organ music
as well as music for carillon, vocal and instrumental ensembles.

Hans has given nearly four thousand organ solo recitals across the world, and we are very much looking forward to his recital in St Giles’ Cathedral.
