Introit

Confirma hoc Deus

Stablish the thing O God that thou hast wrought in us.
For thy temple’s sake at Jerusalem:
So shall kings bring presents unto thee.

Text: Psalm 68 28b-29
Music: William Byrd 1540-1623

Processional Hymn

This is a day of new beginnings,
time to remember, and move on,
time to believe what love is bringing,
laying to rest the pain that's gone.

For by the life and death of Jesus,
love's mighty Spirit, now as then,
can make for us a world of difference
as faith and hope are born again.

Then let us, with the Spirit's daring,
step from the past, and leave behind
our disappointment, guilt and grieving,
seeking new paths, and sure to find.

In faith we'll gather round the table
to show and share what love can do.
This is a day of new beginnings;
our God is making all things new.

Text: Brian Wren b.1936
Tune: Sunset CH4 609 George Gilbert Stocks 1877-1960

Invitation

Confession

God of open-hearted love, we have crafted golden calves of power, prosperity, pleasure and progress, then worshipped at the feet of our own creations, seduced by the promise that humans are in control. Forgive us our breathtaking arrogance; forgive us our obstructive self-centredness; forgive us our fickle betrayals. In your forgiving love, stay with us and renew us, that we may live our daily lives reflecting your hope, your joy, your love, shown to us in Jesus Christ our Lord, in whose name we pray.

Declaration of Forgiveness

Gloria Patri sung by the Choir (Ridout)

First Lesson    Exodus 33 12-23

Metrical Psalm

O sing a new song to the Lord:
sing all the earth to God.
To God sing, bless his name, shew still
his saving health abroad.

Great honour is before his face,
and majesty divine;
strength is within his holy place,
and there doth beauty shine.

Do ye ascribe unto the Lord,
of people every tribe,
glory do ye unto the Lord,
and mighty power ascribe.

Give ye the glory to the Lord
that to his name is due;
come ye into his courts, and bring
an offering with you.

Text: Psalm 96 1,2, 6-8 Scottish Psalter 1929
Tune: Southwark Adapted from a melody by Christopher Tye c1508-1572

The Gospel   St Matthew 22 15-22

The Sermon

The Apostles' Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth:
And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord,
Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,
Born of the Virgin Mary,
Suffered under Pontius Pilate,
Was crucified, dead, and buried:
He descended into hell;
The third day he rose again from the dead;
He ascended into heaven,
And sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost;
The Communion of Saints;
The Forgiveness of sins;
The Resurrection of the body,
And the Life everlasting.

The Offering

The Intercessions

Gloria in Excelsis sung by the Choir

Glory be to God on high, and in earth peace, goodwill towards men. We praise thee, we bless thee, we worship thee, we glorify thee, we give thanks to thee for thy great glory, O Lord God, heavenly King, God the Father Almighty.
O Lord, the only-begotten Son Jesu Christ; O Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, that takest away the sins of the world, have mercy upon us. Thou that takest away the sins of the world, have mercy upon us. Thou that takest away the sins of the world, receive our prayer. Thou that sittest at the right hand of God the Father, have mercy upon us.
For thou only art holy; thou only art the Lord; thou only, O Christ, with the Holy Ghost, art most high in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

Prayer

Sanctus

Holy, holy, holy,
Lord God of Hosts,
Heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Glory be to you, O Lord Most High.

Blessed is he that comes in the Name of the Lord:
Hosanna in the highest.

Prayer

The Lord's Prayer

Our Father, which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done, in earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever and ever.

Agnus Dei

Lamb of God, that takes away the sin of the world,
Have mercy upon us.
Lamb of God, that takes away the sin of the world,
Have mercy upon us.
Lamb of God, that takes away the sin of the world,
Grant us your peace.

Holy Communion

During Communion the Choir sings

Agnus Dei

O Lamb of God, that takes away the sin of the world, have mercy upon us.
O Lamb of God, that takes away the sin of the world, have mercy upon us.
O Lamb of God, that takes away the sin of the world, grant us your peace.

Prayer

Hymn

Christ is alive, and the universe must celebrate,
and the stars and the suns shout on this Easter Day!
Christ is alive, and his family must celebrate
in a great alleluia, a great alleluia
to praise the power that made the stone roll away.

Here is our hope: in the mystery of suffering
is the heartbeat of Love, Love that will not let go,
here is our hope, that in God we are not separate,
and we sing alleluia, we sing alleluia
to praise the power that made the stone roll away.

Christ Spirit, dance through the dullness of humanity
to the music of God, God who has set us free!
You are the pulse of the new creation's energy;
with a great alleluia, a great alleluia
we praise the power that made the stone roll away.
